Now a lot of cats “Freestyle” for us but you can tell they are verses or writtens. If you listen carefully to FAB’s freestyle you can hear him incorporating what is going on in the street including the pizza spot’s “security” guard who is telling us we need to move because the crowd that is forming outside is blocking the entry to their spot. In this segment Big Sean tells us the story of how he got Kanye’s attention but then struggled to survive for a couple years before he got signed. Everyone in his hometown thought he was already signed so he couldn’t just go get a 9-5 at the mall and was having trouble just getting enough money to eat. Sean goes on to talk about how his relationship with Kanye has evolved and how Kanye put him on the spot to rap in a cypher with Pharrell, The Teriyaki Boyz, Nigo, etc during Bathing Ape photo shot in Japan. www.hardknock.tv Hard Knock Tv’s Devi Dev and Nick Huff Barili talk to Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek talk about the early years of Kanye West’s career. From Kanye opening up for Kweli to labels not wanting to sign him as a rapper. Kweli says that people didn’t see Kanye’s vision as an artist and just wanted his beats. Kweli says that he knew “College Drop Out” was a classic when he first heard it. Hi-Tek adds that Kanye is a genius in the same way that Dr Dre is. I personally remember getting the white label vinyl of “Through The Wire” “Two Words” that Kanye paid to press up himself because at that time Def Jam and The Roc weren’t pushing him out. I also remember being at the Def Jam office’s in NY (during CMJ) with the Rap Attack DJ’s telling them that they needed to get behind that record because we were all getting great feedback at our college radio stations. www.hardknock.tv Hard Knock Tv’s Mark Anthony Jenkins and Nick Huff Barili caught up with Terry Kennedy recently at a local skate park. In this interview TK explains how he got his nick name ‘Compton Ass Terry” even though he is from Long Beach, how his bother used to call him white boy for skateboarding and how he used to keep his skateboard at this friends house cause he knew their would be problems with people on the block. TK goes on to say that his issues with Lupe Fiasco have been resolved and that he learned that you can’t take everything personal. www.hardknock.tv Hard Knock Tv’s Nick Huff Barili and Balance talk to Bone Thugs N Harmony about their memories of working with The Notorious BIG and Tupac Shakur. Bone says that Diddy called them when them and Biggie were in Cali and said to come over to studio. Bone laid down their verses to Notorious Thugs and then Biggie took it back to NY to write his verse. They didn’t hear the final version until after Biggie passed away. Bone says they were tempted to jump into East-West Coast thing but Eazy-E told them to stay out of it.
